Lady Chiller
web design
Food + Beverage
Introducing a refreshing energy to the craft ice scene, this web design brings Lady Chiller's brand to life with its approachable, clean aesthetic and touch of playfulness.
Background
Lady Chiller is a woman-owned company that values community, craft and service. New to the craft ice industry and without a digital presence, they had reached full production capacity and were ready to take on more clients.
Problem
Momentum was building, but without a digital presence, Lady Chiller didn't have a centralized hub to showcase offerings, convert leads into clients, and streamline the inquiry process. With brand assets ready to go, we were looking at a timeline of four weeks.
Solution
A website that delivers a clean and approachable aesthetic, intuitive user flows, and presents content in a digestible way. To add a touch of playfulness, I created hand-drawn stars and handwritten text that complement the existing brand assets.
Research
A clear view of the industry
I began researching the craft ice industry to get an idea of industry standards and the current standing of its digital presence. After poking around a handful of websites, I identified patterns which would later help me to organize, prioritize, and expand on informational content.
Here’s what caught my attention:
Only some of the competitor’s websites talked about their process and explained best practices for storing and preparing the ice.
Here’s why it matters:
These simple, yet necessary pieces of information are there for the user. It not only shows the level of care that goes into the process, but that possible user concerns are anticipated, addressed and presented in an accessible way.
Strategy
Shaping the content
Using what I learned from research, I audited the client-provided content and identified areas to expand on for a better user experience – like including an in-depth explanation of the ice making process along with a short description to appeal to the different needs of users. The goal was to make necessary information accessible without overwhelming the visitor.
When thinking about the layout, and keeping the brand attributes in mind (“clean and pristine, with a feminine, playful touch”), my first instinct was for the content to be neat and tidy, and to let the branding elements take care of the playful aspect.
Design
Leaning into the Lady Chiller brand
Pulling inspiration from the existing brand assets provided by Lady Chiller’s graphic designer, I added a couple hand-drawn elements of my own to tie everything together and add that extra touch of playfulness. The box shadow effect is a subtle nod to an ice cube, while the star accent resembles frost. I wanted to lean into the features of an ice cube without being too literal.
